Geological Research

My geological research focuses on the chemical weathering of andesitic material in the tropics, specifically on the island of Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe. I work with Dr. Peter Sak, Assoicate Professor of Earth Sciences at Dickinson College.

Our sample clast contains and andesitic core, a friable weathering rind, and an indurated crust overlain my soil. This has allowed us to characterize the weathering reactions from core to rind to soil, which has never been previously done. The changes across the clast include elemental depletions and enrichments, as well as porosity changes.

The preliminary research was presented at the American Geophysical Union Conference in 2014, and has been submitted for consideration at the Goldschmidt Conference in 2015.
