Residential Advisor for McKenney Suites

I serve as one of two residential advisors (RA) for McKenney Suites, which are 8-person suites for upperclassmen - generally sophomores and juniors. There are approximately 100 students in the building each year. This is my second year as an RA in McKenney.

As an RA, we are expected to provide programming for our residents in a few different ways. One is through passive programming, such as bulletin boards, posters, and signs which are hung throughout the building. There's also active programming through at least two building-wide events and multiple smaller events each semester. In the past, I've done barbecues, a March Madness party, and a Halloween dance party. I also sometimes bring residents to events around campus, and other times will just stop into their suite to chat with them about their week.

Additionally, each RA has to do walk-abouts through a handful of residence halls approximately 15 times each semester. My area has three first-year buildings, and two upperclass buildings, including my own. Walk-abouts are done in order to assess issues with the building, and to ensure the safety of the students.
