Baird Sustainability Reflection Essay
As a Baird Sustainability Fellow, we were asked to reflect on our idea of sustainability, and how it has shaped our life. This piece is my personal take on sustainability, how it defines me as a person, and how I plan on having it continue to influence my life.
Inorganic Chemistry:
Our five lab reports for this class were written in the ACS Communications style, so they are condensed reports. All experiments, analysis, and calculations were performed in lab.
This is a literature-based paper about paleowildfires, titled The Evidence, Effects, and Implications of Paleowildfires. This paper was written over the course of a semester. I also had to give a presentation about the topic to the class.
Sedimentology and Stratigraphy Paper
This paper was an experiment that I designed and performed for my Sed/Strat class. I looked at the erosion of sediment in an area that was coverd by a "natural meadow" and another area that had no vegetation. The paper that resulted is a full jounal-style report.
The prompt for this paper was to pick a chapter from Thoreau's Walden and to explain how the particular chapter summarizes the entire rest of the piece. For this assignment, I chose the Conclusion.
We were told to focus on some aspect of African culture that was brought to the New World by slaves. I chose to write my paper on music and musical instruments, specifically the banjo, since I have played the banjo for a few years.
Philosophy Essays:
We wrote three different essays for this philosophy class, two of which are presented here. The first is an argument both for and against Moral Relativism (as the prompt asked), while the second is about Kantianism in a movie that we watched in class.
Thermodynamics and Kinetics Lab Report
This lab report was for a nanoparticle lab that we performed in class over the course of four weeks. This particular report was written individually, even though the labratory procedure was performed with a partner.
Creative Writing:
My creative writing class focused on poetry and prose writing. The fictional piece was given a ten page limit and could be about any topic, while the poetry pieces were given prompts. All pieces were workshopped. Both original and final poems are presented in this portfolio.
